COVID-19 Vaccine

Protect yourself with the COVID-19 vaccine.

The COVID-19 vaccine is the best protection against serious illness, hospitalisation, and complications from coronavirus.

According to the HSE 2026 programme, the following groups are recommended to get vaccinated:

People aged 80 years and over.
Adults living in long term care facilities.
People with immunocompromise.

Timing and intervals.

There should be at least 3 months since your last COVID-19 vaccine or COVID-19 infection before getting vaccinated.

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine if I’ve already had COVID-19?

Yes. Vaccination boosts your protection and reduces your risk of reinfection and serious illness.

Do I need a COVID-19 vaccine every year?

The HSE advises seasonal vaccination. For 2026, the groups above are recommended.

Is it safe in pregnancy?

While COVID-19 vaccination remains safe in pregnancy, the benefits of COVID-19 vaccination are less pronounced than they were in previous eras. As a result, NIAC no longer routinely recommends a dose of a COVID-19 vaccine once in each pregnancy. However, NIAC still recommends that pregnant adolescents and adults with immunocompromise or other medical conditions associated with a higher risk of COVID-19 hospitalisation, severe disease or death should receive one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine in each pregnancy. Please seek advice from our Pharmacist.

Can children get the COVID-19 vaccine?

Yes. Children aged 6 months and older with immunocompromise are eligible. Vaccines will be given in a pharmacy setting to those over the age of 12.
